UPDATE: June 8th, 2016 It appears that Graybell Academy is no longer open. HEAL found the programs 990 tax returns for 2015 online and found that they claimed 0 income for that year. In addition, we were unable to find a website for this program. According to a recent news article, Larry Wolf is in prison and the Graybell program is defunct. The building's owner, Larry Wolf, was sentenced for violating the federal Clean Air Act pertaining to asbestos removal from the building. prev next SIOUX CITY | The owner of the former Sioux City YMCA building pleaded guilty Wednesday to violating the Clean Air Act by failing to have an accurate inspection for asbestos. Larry Wolf, 54, of Dakota City, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Sioux City to one count of violating the work practice standards of the Clean Air Act. A sentencing date was not scheduled. He faces a sentence of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Wolf was indicted in June on 10 counts of Clean Air Act violations and making false statements to the federal Environmental Protection Agency. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Wolf pleaded guilty to knowing that the building, at 722 Nebraska St., contained asbestos but not having a thorough inspection done to determine how much or if it was enough to require regulation during a planned demolition project. At Wednesday's plea hearing, Wolf admitted that shortly after he bought the building in 2009 he had been told by the building's former custodian that the building contained asbestos. The U.S. Attorney's Office said that Wolf was provided with an asbestos abatement estimate of $171,792 in 2010. Despite that knowledge, Wolf and others at his direction removed and disposed of asbestos in the building. Wolf sold copper, brass, aluminum and other metals after removing regulated asbestos-containing wrappings from the metals for more than $80,000, according the the U.S. Attorney's Office. Wolf also told one of his employees that the building was safe to work in because it had been abated for asbestos, though he knew it had not been. Wolf said in June that he intended the building would house an agency he hoped to create to help children, but that organization is not operational. He said there was also some interest in developing low-income housing inside the building.
