Following
is HEAL's review of New Beginnings'
enrollment agreement,
application, and
release forms.
The hyperlinked text in the previous sentence and in the title will take you
to the complete documents used for this review. The documents linked
above are the original documents from New Beginnings and are the basis for
this review. We will not be linking to the documents throughout the
remainder of the review and advise readers to open the documents in a new
window if greater contextualization is preferred. This review will
follow the same format as others on our website. We will begin with
the document title, page number assigned by .pdf format as pages are not
numbered by New Beginnings, and quoted text from those pages followed by our
comments, questions, and concerns.
"I/We understand that the structure and rules under which my/our child
will be educated and trained are very strict."
"New Beginnings administration will have my/our full support and
cooperation as they minister to the needs of my/our child."
"I/We understand that New Beginnings is no more that the name implies and
makes no claims to be anything else."
"I/We understand that my/our child may not always be in the immediate
presence of an adult, and therefore, I/We will not hold the Academy, its
staff, or its officials responsible for my/our child's welfare."
HEAL Comments/Concerns
The structure, rules, and severity of disciplinary procedures are
discussed in the review of later pages. However, we will tell you now
that the "discipline" includes what is legally considered abuse in many
states throughout the country. It is considered abuse to use a paddle
or instrument to strike a child in many states.
There
are only 20 states that still permit corporal punishment. Missouri
is one of them.
Is New Beginnings an accredited school that provides transferrable
academic credit?
HEAL searched the Missouri Department of Education to see if New Beginnings
was listed as a registered private school. New Beginnings was not
listed in the school directory. It appears that New Beginnings' own
website now solely claims it is a ministry and not a school. (Source:
newbeginningsgirlsacademy.com, June 23rd, 2011) The only claims made
regarding education and training on their website at this time are in
regards to "spiritual education". New Beginnings is an "academy" in
its d/b/a name only. It is a ministry with no qualifications for
providing mental health services nor academic services.
New Beginnings requires absolute control over and obedience from the
parents and the children that enter their program. This will be
discussed further as we get to more detailed pages and concerns throughout
the review.
It would appear that New Beginnings is disclaiming any possible
"misunderstandings" regarding their program by claiming that New Beginnings
is no more than is implied by the name. And, this is one of many
statements in New Beginnings' documents that suggest deception,
unconscionability, fraud, and/or open hypocrisy on the part of New
Beginnings.
On page one New Beginnings disclaims any injuries that may occur as a
result of temporary non-supervision of minors in the program. However,
as you will see below, New Beginnings also disclaims any injuries, up to and
including death, caused by New Beginnings' staff, policies, and disciplinary
procedures.
Page 2 Quotes
"I feel that my presence is unnecessary and unwarranted for the enrolling
of my child into New Beginnings. I understand that although not
present, I am responsible for all policies discussed in the Enrollment
Agreement."
HEAL Comments/Concerns
It is horribly irresponsible for custodial parents to allow their child
to be transported to the facility by hired kidnappers. It is a serious
concern that children can be spirited away to a cult-like compound in
Missouri, with no telephone, media (tv/newspapers/etc.), and only censored
mail, by hired kidnappers. A program that recommends this form of
transport for a child is not acting in the best interest of the child or the
family.
Page 3 Quotes
"Since salvation is the beginning and not the end, we seek to provide an
environment that will nurture the new Christian into a daily surrender of
self to the person of Christ...We expect parent(s)/guardian(s) to fully
support this desire."
"An enrollment of twelve (12) months is the contractual agreement.
The contract is automatically renewed after the initial twelve (12) month
period on a yearly basis...Should you voluntarily remove your child from
enrollment prior to the expiration of the initial twelve (12) month contract
the remaining tuition for the year will be due immediately effective the
date of your child's termination of enrollment...At no point should parent(s)/guardian(s),
or any other person(s), discuss enrollment time frames with the student."
"The amount of the comprehensive fee, which covers charges for tuition,
room and board, food, and uniforms, is established by the Academy
administration...The school year comprehensive fees for your student are
$10,300.00"
HEAL Comments/Concerns
What does New Beginnings mean by "surrender of self"? And, is the
surrender to God or those who claim authority in his name at New Beginnings?
According to the disciplinary policies discussed below, children in the
program are to be submissive to staff at all times and to admit they deserve
the beatings they receive and to receive the beatings without emotional and
physical response. Jesus was against torturing children. Why
isn't New Beginnings?
There are many penalties involved when parents
decide to unenroll their child from this 501(c)3 non-profit ministry.
These penalties include possible ex-communication from their church and
great financial loss. Great financial loss would appear to be
guaranteed by the contract which automatically renews each year and if the
parents fail to notify of removing the child 48 hours before the anniversary
they would be required to pay for another year. And, if the parents
remove their child, based on this unconscionable and likely illegal contract
given the contract's own disdain for United States courts, then the program
expects them to pay for the entire contract period of a year. Do you
get to negotiate the length of the contract? If not, then it is
one-sided and arguably unjust enrichment for New Beginnings to collect from
dissatisfied and/or horrified parents in the event of early withdrawal or
dismissal.
It is a serious concern that the program expects family members
to keep secrets from each other while demanding full disclosure to the
program. This is unethical and a suggests a cult-like and manipulative
program. It is healthy for adolescents to have a sense of control over
their own lives and knowledge about what to expect. It is unhealthy to
keep them locked in a "religious" compound with no uncensored access to
communicate with the outside world, no news, and no calendars. New
Beginnings does not put the needs of children and their families first.
And, encourages deception within the family. This is a serious
concern.
The term "room and board" includes meals. There is no need
to include food in addition to "room and board". This shows a lack of
higher education on the part of the individuals running this program.
This program is relatively cheap compared to other programs. However,
it is not cheap when one considers the children are receiving no
transferrable academic credits and are being abused and used as free labor
for the program. We bet all companies wish they could get paid to
force other people to do manual labor without compensation. But,
slavery was outlawed in the United States over a century ago. This
would suggest that New Beginnings is possibly in violation of federal laws
relating to uncompensated labor and child labor.
Page 4 Quotes
"Tuition does not include other fees or costs outlined
below."
"New Beginnings is a non-profit ministry."
"A personal account
must be established to pay for incidental expenses that the student might
incur (i.e., haircuts, meals out during field trips, film processing, etc.)
This account should be maintained at a minimum balance of $100...Parents
should send $25.00 per month to maintain this account in good standing.
Should you fail to do so, we will view this as your statement that you no
longer desire to have your child enrolled at New Beginnings, and that you
will enact a voluntary withdrawal of your child from the Academy. in
which case the remaining year's tuition will become due effective the date
of the child's termination of enrollment. You will be asked to make
immediate arrangements to have your child returned home. Upon failure
of the parent(s)/guardian(s) to make such arrangements, the student will be
placed on a bus destined for your child home area at the expense of the
parent(s)/guardian(s)."
"There will be a $200.00 uniform fee."
"A
$200.00 medical escrow must be established as preparation against possible
medical expenses."
"Health insurance must be maintained by the parent.
Medicaid will not be considered insurance."
"In the event you accrue a
delinquent account balance as set forth above, for any reason, and New
Beginnings is forced to take legal action, parent(s)/guardian(s) agree to be
liable for New Beginnings' attorney fees and court costs."
The withdrawal policy is the same as the dismissal policy if a child
leaves the program based on the decision of New Beginnings or the parents
prior to New Beginnings' finding that the child is ready to "graduate".
Is the uniform similar to that used at
Circle of Hope? If
so, it is not worth $200.00. Parents should inquire what the uniform
looks like and how it is used. It is possible that any proper uniform
may be used to "dress up" the children for fundraising events that New
Beginnings holds to raise cash for their "non-profit" that is truly only
self-serving. Regardless, if the uniform benefits New Beginnings more
than the child, then it should be included in the base cost. Of
course, HEAL recommends you not enroll your child in any Roloff-style
program.
Most non-profits will support individuals on Medicaid. Why
doesn't New Beginnings?
The final quote from page four references the possibility of New
Beginnings filing a lawsuit for collection purposes. This is
contradicted by their forced arbitration policy and claim that Christians do
not sue other Christians in other areas discussed below. It shows an
illusory contract at best and arguably illegality and unconscionability in
terms at worst.
Page 5 Quotes
"TERMINATION POLICY"
"Should
there remain an unpaid balance of any moneys due New Beginnings, the
student's academic transcripts will not be released until this debt has been
satisfied. At termination, the parent(s)/guardian(s) will be required
to execute a Memorandum of Termination of Enrollment at New Beginnings."
"In the event New Beginnings request the termination of a student based upon
the procedures outlined in the retention policy, the parent(s)/guardian(s)
will be required to make immediate arrangements to have their child's
enrollment terminated. At least one (1) parent/guardian is required to
make immediate arrangements to have their child off the campus at the time
of withdrawal from enrollment. Upon failure of the parent(s)/guardian(s)
to make arrangements, the student will be placed on a bus destined for your
child home area at the expense of the parent(s)/guardian(s). In the
event this termination prior to the expiration of the contract, the
remaining tuition for that period will become due and payable effective the
date of termination. Should there remain an unpaid balance of any
moneys due New Beginnings, the student's academic transcripts will not be
released until this fee has been satisfied."
"Academic transcripts will
only be released following a written request of such from the student's
receiving school."
HEAL Comments/Concerns
It is a serious concern that
whether at the parents' option or the program's option, the contract can be
terminated with the full contracted amount claimed by the program.
This appears to be an unconscionable term. And, HEAL would recommend
against enrolling any child in this program.
In addition, New Beginnings is not a recognized school in Missouri.
It is very likely that they are aware of this fact and the fact that the
"credits" earned are unlikely to transfer to legitimate schools. This
is the likely reason that they use the transcripts to attempt to arguably
extort families for full payment. This is not the behavior of a
compassionate, Christian ministry.
Page 6 Quotes
"MAIL POLICY"
"All mail must be sent and received via
the parent(s)/guardian(s). All correspondence to students will be
restricted to family members only, unless prior approval is given by New
Beginnings staff. All mail is read by New Beginnings staff prior to
release to the student. The student's outgoing mail will also be
censored in this way. The staff has complete discretion in determining
the appropriateness of all mail."
"All scriptural references, whether in
letter, cards, bookmark, etc. must be from the OLD King James Bible (KJV,
1611). All other child versions will be returned. No newspaper
articles, clippings, Internet or e-mail clippings, church bulletins or
school newsletters are allowed. Any letters containing references to
the student's homecoming, i.e., "When you get home..." will not be permitted
and will be returned. Any photographs must meet the following
standards:"
"Ladies must be in modest attire (i.e., no short shorts, low
cut tops, etc.)."
"Men must have short hairstyles. If the hair is
long, the hair must be pulled back for the photo."
"Men must have no
visible jewelry on; this includes necklaces, bracelets, ankle bracelets, and
earrings."
"No T-shirts may be worn that promote rock/country/contemporary
bands (including Christian), alcoholic beverage companies, or any other
promotion deemed inappropriate at the sole discretion of staff at New
Beginnings."
"No photos of old friends/boyfriends. Photos should be
restricted to family only."
"It should be noted that the staff of New
Beginnings will be the judge on the appropriateness of all photos.
Please respect this judgment."
"TELEPHONE POLICY"
"Only parent(s)/guardian(s)
may initiate a phone call. The parent(s)/guardian(s) may call in.
The child does not call out."
"The first phone call may be received after
one full month of enrollment."
"Married parents and divorced parents
calling their child may have a maximum of fifteen (15) minutes per call.
Divorced parents calling separately may each have a maximum ten (10) minute
phone call."
"All phone calls are timed."
"Calling hours are as follows:
M, T, and TH 5:30-6:30pm. FRI from 5:30-8:30p.m., and SAT 12:00 noon
to 8:30p.m. There will be no calls accepted on Wednesday or Sunday."
[Ends on page 7]
HEAL Comments/Concerns
New Beginnings admits to
violating the law in admitting they censor and read all incoming and
outgoing mail in violation of the children's rights. This is a serious
concern as one admitted illegal act suggests a larger pattern of disregard
for the law in regards to children's rights and welfare. A federal
court decision (Milonas
and Rice, et al v. Provo Canyon School) found that censoring and reading
mail in the way described by New Beginnings is a violation of the law.
This is a serious concern. Such censoring of mail is also one of the
warning signs of an abusive program available at
www.heal-online.org/warn.htm.
We advise parents to review the warning signs list and use the recommended
questions to evaluate programs you consider for your family.
It is a
serious concern that access to the outside world is so limited. Why
can't families share church bulletins, school bulletins, and other such
materials with their children? Why does New Beginnings usurp the
parents' authority? How does disrespecting parents in this manner
reinforce respect and honor for those parents? Limiting access to the
outside world in this manner is symptomatic of a cult, not a church.
It is also symptomatic of a cult to keep their initiates in the dark about a
possible escape, rescue, or other means of leaving their clutches.
These are serious concerns and parents should avoid programs like New
Beginnings.
Later on, New Beginnings claims that they believe that the KJV
1611 version of the bible is the true word of God and that it is the only
valid record of God's word. This is insulting to Christians around the
country who prefer other versions of the Bible. And, it does not show
a dedication to tolerance towards other Christians let alone tolerance for
other faiths and cultures. We recommend parents review
the introduction
to the KJV 1611 Bible that is available around the world and understand
that while those who wrote it were definitely inspired by their faith, that
it is still a work of man and those that manipulate the text, meaning of the
text, etc. to gain your trust and access to your bank accounts are false
prophets not to be trusted.
Jesus reportedly had long hair. Why can't Christians? This
seems an unreasonable standard based on cult-like adherence to conformity
rather than any legitimate influence a long-haired man may have on the
children. God forbid Jesus returns and is not allowed to interact with
the children because his hair is long.
Many men wear bracelets for medical purposes. Many men wear
necklaces as a way to express their faith. Many families give men
jewelry as a token of affection. Why can't young men wear jewelry with
family or faith-based significance at New Beginnings? Why can't
children have a photo of a male family member who wears jewelry? The
likely answer is that New Beginning is a cult and not about faith as much as
strict adherence and control over those who fall for their falsehoods.
This is a concern.
It is a concern that New Beginnings even dictates what family members can
wear in photos they send to their child. This is over-reaching and
shows a far too controlling and disrespectful approach to families and
individual family members. A family member can't even be wearing a
shirt celebrating Christian music. Do you see how absurd that sounds?
Why would you give New Beginnings such control over you and your family?
The phone restrictions are also a serious concern. Physical abuse is a
reported common occurrence at programs like New Beginnings. And, it is
disturbing that children have no access to write or phone when they have
been harmed in the care of New Beginnings. Rules like this at programs
like New Beginnings create an atmosphere where abuse is common and regularly
covered up. No parent should enroll their child in New Beginnings or
any similar program.
It is also a serious concern that a child may not
have phone contact with family for at least a month. A communication
black-out period is common in cults and used to breakdown the initiate so
that the cult has control and obedience prior to first contact with the
outside world. Please see
www.heal-online.org/warn.htm
for more information.
Page 7 Quotes
"VISIT POLICY"
"No one may
initiate a visit other than the parent(s)/guardian(s). The first visit
may be made after six full months of enrollment, and subsequent visits may
be set at six-month intervals. It may be longer than six months
between visits, but never less than six months between visits. No
student will be allowed to return to your child's home state within the
first twelve months. If your child has been enrolled for less than
twelve months, he or she is required to spend their first Christmas as a
student on campus. A minimum two (2) week advance notice must be given
to New Beginnings prior to your visit. The dates of all visits should
be closely planned and coordinated with the Superintendent. All visits
are subject to the approval of the Academy administration."
"The
administration retains the right to cancel or cut short a visit due to a
student's negative behavior. At no point should parent(s)/guardian(s)
or any other person(s) discuss upcoming visits with the student."
"FIRST
SIX MONTH VISIT"
"3 days - Friday 9:00am through Sunday 9Pm. The
student and parent(s)/guardian(s) must attend Sunday church services on
campus with their child."
"HOME VISIT"
"Only after on year and at the
discretion of New Beginnings staff."
"THE FOLLOWING ARE APPLICABLE TO ALL
VISITS"
"The student must attend church service during your visit."
"The
student should maintain all standards that are in place at New Beginnings
(clothing, music, TV, phone calls, etc.)."
HEAL Comments/Concerns
It is
a serious concern that New Beginnings keeps parents and children separated
for at least six months at a time. This is not supportive of
individual family members or the family's needs for contact with each other.
Barring visits and setting visits without having a set visitation schedule
that allows for parents to visit on at least a weekly basis show that New
Beginnings is a cult and not a school nor a legitimate ministry. New
Beginnings bars contact for 6-months because the evidence of abuse would be
too obvious in regards to someone who is "new" to the program. By
barring access and direct contact between parents and their children, New
Beginnings protects itself from investigation and prosecution. This is
a serious concern and another reason why New Beginnings should be avoided.
Again, New Beginnings demands absolute confession to their "leadership"
while demanding family members keep secrets from each other and that is
something abusers do, not representatives of God.
It is a serious concern
that children are not allowed to go home for Christmas like children at any
legitimate boarding school. This is another symptom of a cult and
another big red flag that suggests parents avoid New Beginnings like the
plague. It is also a serious concern that New Beginnings claims
authority over the entire family regarding the "appropriateness" of a home
visit. Shouldn't such scheduling be in the hands of the
family/parents?
Don't let false prophets turn you away from Christ's love and compassion
to live in fear and hate. That is New Beginnings' mission and it is
ungodly.
Page 8 Quotes
"GENERAL VISIT INFORMATION"
"Any supplies,
gifts, letters, etc., must be checked with New Beginnings staff before you
give it to your child."
"New Beginnings is not responsible for any
damaged, lost or stolen property, or harm/injury that might occur to any of
your family in attendance, or your child, while on our campus."
"A
possible visit schedule for your child would be as follows: After completion
of 6 month; after completion of 12 months (unless graduating) and every 6
months thereafter."
"PARENTAL SUPPORT"
"Please do not ask
for us to alter, waive, or compromise any New Beginnings policies to make
them meet with your satisfaction or approval. If at any time a
parent/guardian becomes unwilling to give full support to all New Beginnings
policies, as determined by New Beginnings administration, we will view your
actions as a statement that you no longer desire to have your child enrolled
at New Beginnings, and that you are enacting a voluntary removal of your
child from the Academy, in which case the remaining tuition will become due
effective the date of your child's termination of enrollment."
"By nature,
young people rebel against controls that suppress their carnal desires.
Unchecked by discipline, these desires will lead to a life of heartache and
negative consequences."
"New Beginnings uses a system of demerits to
record each student's infraction of rules. Only adult New Beginnings
staff members may assign demerits. Each infraction will cause the
student to accumulate the corresponding demerits. Once a certain
number of demerits are accumulated, the student will receive the specified
discipline." [This sentence ends on page 9]
HEAL Comments/Concerns
Why are gifts from parents, including basic supplies, run through New
Beginnings staff for approval? If a parent desires their child to have
something, what right does New Beginnings have to deny the parent the
authority in this situation? This is a concern and another example of
how New Beginnings over-reaches when it comes to control over their
"clients".
New Beginnings claims to teach responsibility and obedience.
However, New Beginnings fails to obey the law and fails to show any
responsibility regarding the welfare of children and families while at New
Beginnings. The fact that New Beginnings fails to lead by example in
taking responsibility for their own wrongs is enough to show that this
program is a scam and not a legitimate Christian ministry.
It is a serious
concern that New Beginnings also denies contact between family members for
at least 6 months at a time and often longer. This is a sign of a cult
and not a legitimate ministry, school, or service provide. It is also
a sign of an abusive program. See
www.heal-online.org/warn.htm
for additional warning signs and questions you should ask any program you
consider for your family. We advise families avoid New Beginnings.
New Beginnings admits that their "contract" is an adherence contract and
that there is not mutuality in the agreement and terms. This is a
concern and based on the other requirements in this contract, suggest both
an illegal and unconscionable agreement.
Why is New Beginnings focused on suppressing sexual urges? This is
contrary to science and nature and often results in life-long difficulty
relating to the opposite sex. Many survivors of Roloff-style homes
have reported that the extreme rules of never making eye contact with the
opposite sex and never smiling at the opposite sex has made finding a
relationship and sustaining a relationship in adulthood nearly impossible.
New Beginnings destroys the children they claim to serve and this is not
acceptable. Please do not place your child in New Beginnings and
rescue them if they are there now.
Are other children put in staff
positions over newer arrivals to the program? How many non-adult
"staff" currently "work" for New Beginnings? And, are they paid at
least minimum wage for their service? A program that places children
in authority of other children is a cult and not a ministry nor treatment
facility.
Page 9 Quotes
"If the student has more than ten (10) demerits in a week
then he or she is placed on discipline for the following week. This
discipline includes:"
"Loss of desserts and seconds during meals"
"Loss
of all extra-curricular activities including but not limited to field trips,
basketball, volleyball, tennis racquetball, baseball, Ping-Pong, football,
and swimming."
"Various forms of physical training which include but are
not limited to the following: jumping jacks, push-ups, sit-ups, squats,
hops, leg lifts, crawls, running, carrying cinder blocks, or all of the
above."
"Standing with your child nose touching the end of your child bed
for a time period of 1 hour with a 10-minute sit-down break each hour.
This is excluding any regularly scheduled activities and school time."
"When all other forms of discipline have not produced the desired change in
behavior and attitude, corporal discipline (swats) may be administered.
A maximum of five (5) consecutive correctly received swats upon the buttocks
may be administered. Correctly received swats are those in which the
student exhibits a submissive attitude, as determined by the administrator
of the corporal discipline. This submissive attitude must be exhibited
throughout the discipline session. A maximum of fifteen (15) swats of
any kind, whether correctly received or incorrectly received, may be
administered in a twenty-four period."
"A flat paddle is used to
administer the corporal discipline."
"There are several instances that
would warrant immediate corporal discipline (as outline above). They
are as follows: physical fights, talk of running away, running away, or any
attempt thereof, direct disobedience to be defined as student's refusal to
follow a directive given by any adult staff member of New Beginnings;
defiant and disrespectful attitude and actions as determined by New
Beginnings staff, and the third offense for cheating in school." [ends on
page 10]
HEAL Comments/Concerns
Some survivors of Roloff-style homes
have reported that children on "discipline" receive two slices of bread and
a slice of cheese for meals while on that "status". Bread and cheese
do not constitute a well-balanced meal. And, it is important for
parents to understand that a "disciplinary" change in diet is likely not as
described in the materials.
How often do the children get to play for recreation/extra-curricular
activity? Survivors of many programs in this industry have reported
that the recreational activities described in the materials were very rare
or non-existent. For instance, Provo Canyon School had a Donkey Kong
arcade game and a television on the Orientation unit in the 1980s.
But, the only thing children in that program were allowed to do with the
game is clean it. And, the only television was one very bad movie per
week if not on investment. So, while New Beginnings may have a
Ping-Pong table, tennis racquets and basketballs on the premises, it does
not mean that the children are ever allowed use of them other than to clean
or accept "paddling" punishments.
Many Roloff-survivors have reported that
physical training was exhausting and that they were forced to continue these
activities to the point of passing out. Parents shouldn't place their
children in New Beginnings. Children have died in behavior
modification programs due to dehydration and other causes related to being
over-worked without proper sustenance and nutrition. Children have
growing bodies and extensive exercise and poor diet can lead to life-long
illness. This is a serious concern.
The "bed" punishment is
definitely a punishment. This is also true of the "paddling" discussed
below. Only sadists who enjoy inflicting pain and do not respect
children in their care engage in such activities. New Beginnings is an
extremely oppressive environment that controls the families whom they claim
to serve while depleting their resources. New Beginnings also engages
in open disregard for the law, hypocrisy, and deception. As discussed
above, New Beginnings encourages family members to keep secrets from each
other and commit lies of omission between family members. This is what
the King James Version of the Bible says about the Oppressor: "He shall
judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and
shall break in pieces the oppressor." (Psalm
72:4) If you oppress your brethren, you serve Satan. You
serve the Oppressor. New Beginnings does not serve God, only their own
self interest and the interest of their Master to break the faith of young
children through oppression and abuse. There is nothing more ungodly
than harming children and turning them away from God by convincing them they
are hated by God unless they serve the men at New Beginnings.
Using a
wooden paddle is considered physical abuse in most states. Hitting a
child hard enough to leave a mark or bruises is considered abuse and using
an instrument like a paddle increases the likelihood of such injuries.
Spanking teenagers and demanding submission to being physically touched is a
means of grooming them for other "services". And, this is a serious
concern given the number of reports of abuse at Roloff-style programs.
If
rolling your eyes and failing to desire to be hit are punishable offenses
and punishable by physical abuse, then self-expression is strictly forbidden
at this program. And, if God created your child, do you think he wants
your child to be the child he created or the one the Oppressor would turn
him into? Think about it.
Page 10 Quotes
"The New Beginnings
discipline policy has the goal of giving each student the maximum
opportunity of exercising self-discipline. By the time corporal
discipline is administered, the student will have to acknowledge two
things:"
"That the student's attitude and actions warranted corporal
discipline much sooner than it was actually administered; and"
"That every
opportunity was presented to the student to avoid corporal discipline."
"At no time should the parent(s)/guardian(s) discuss any differences or

HEAL Comments/Concerns
Here is
the Merriam-Webster definition of "Discipline":
:
a rule
or
system
of rules
governing
conduct
or
activity
Parents need to understand that when New Beginnings claims to use
"discipline", they are not claiming to teach by example nor to provide
compassionate, patient, and Christian leadership. Jesus had many
disciples, he never beat them nor forced them to conform. He welcomed
them and encouraged everyone to welcome strangers and treat them with care
and dignity as we would wish to be treated. The "Golden Rule" has been
attributed to
Jesus of Nazareth: "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men
should do to you, do ye even so to them" (Matthew
7:12, see also
Luke 6:31). The common English phrasing is "Do unto others as you would
have them do unto you". A similar form appeared in a Catholic
catechism
around 1567 (certainly in the reprint of 1583).[44]
(Source:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Golden_Rule)
So, if a child is already Christian, New Beginnings has nothing to offer.
And, if a child is not already Christian, New Beginnings does not approach
this "stranger to faith" as they would wish to be approached. Any
honest person would recognize that people respond to faith when they see it
most perfectly expressed. Jesus is a perfect expression of the faith
God's work inspires. And, he lead by example through compassion,
humility, patience, and love for all. New Beginnings preaches hate and
self-hate, that is what the Oppressor teaches. And, it serves no one
but those who would wish evil to reign.
It is wrong to force a child to bear false witness in claiming they
deserve to be beaten when they know they do not and that it is unjust.
Forcing children to bear false witness and/or provide false confessions is
common at IFB/Roloff-related programs. And, this is ungodly. If
you are looking for a false prophet, you have found plenty at New
Beginnings.
New Beginnings requires families to keep secrets from each
other while confiding everything to New Beginnings. This is the action
of a cult that seeks to destroy and separate families. Please do not
fall for their lies.
New Beginnings abuses children and "absolves" itself
of any responsibility by disclaiming responsibility for any harm the can,
do, and will cause. This is unconscionable and no one should sign an
agreement with these servants of the Oppressor.
Parents should never sign
away their guardianship to a school or program. This often gives too
much authority to the school or program and places children in harm's way.
Page 11 Quotes
"Neither New Beginnings, its employees, nor its agents will
be responsible for any student's lost, stolen, or damaged personal
property."
"All bags and boxes will be inspected upon entering and
leaving."
HEAL Comments/Concerns
It is a serious concern that there is
no inventory list that parents and/or children need to sign to ensure that
items are not stolen. It is an additional concern that staff are
allowed to privately "inspect" all items for approval and use any
"inappropriate"/"contraband" items for their own purposes. Theft is a
common occurrence at programs like New Beginnings. And, usually the
program and/or their staff are the culprits.

HEAL Comments/Concerns
We included where they recommend
to shop for a good reason. Wal-Mart sells a number of tunics,
sleeveless shirts, and other items "New Beginnings" considers
"inappropriate". Wal-Mart also sells t-shirts to teens that claim to
have a "tattoo" print. (source:
http://www.walmart.com/browse/Juniors/All-Tops/_/N-8vlgZ1yzminl?_refineresult=true&catNavId=133201&fromPageCatId=133201&ic=48_0&path=0%3A5438&ref=414196+4292469489&tab_value=17702_All,
July 1st, 2011) One of the t-shirts says "I 'Heart' Bad Boys".
And, there is a shirt with Marilyn Monroe with the quote, "Diamonds are a
girls best friend". Another shirt simply says, "Hot Chick".
These are all available at Wal-Mart. HEAL does not endorse Wal-Mart
for a number of reasons. Our point here is that they claim you can
find appropriate clothing at Wal-Mart and Penney's, but, you can find
"contraband" clothing as well. Beyond this, as discussed previously,
message shirts with Christian bands or messages on them are not allowed at
this so-called ministry. How absurd is that? Do you see the
difference between the New Beginnings cult and legitimate ministries yet?
We hope so.
If the families mark their child's belongings, then
discovering what belongs to whom should not be too difficult in the event of
dispute. Legitimate hospitals, treatment centers, and even prisons
inventory an inmate's belongings to resolve any disputes over ownership.
New Beginnings is obviously poorly run as they can't even do a basic
inventory of the belongings of their very limited number of charges in order
to avoid property disputes. Avoiding taking basic precautions the lack
of which lead to disagreement and confusion isn't very Christian.
Families
have sent family quilts to their loved ones in programs and institutions to
allow their child/family member a piece of home while away. Why are
the girls not allowed their own bedding when that is the family's wish?
Is providing linens and bedding optional or is it required and then the
program just decides they have new bedding for themselves/their staff while
the children sleep on makeshift beds like at
Circle of Hope?
Unbelievably cruel, disrespectful, and unethical. New Beginnings does
not share Christ's love on earth, they share the Oppressor's desire for
destruction. And, Christians should avoid false prophets like those
found at New Beginnings.
It is a serious concern that books, calendars,
newspapers, church bulletins from home, and other items are not allowed at
New Beginnings. Cults deprive "initiates" from access to media and a
calendar so that their "initiates" break with reality and experience
absolute despair and hopelessness. Any program that denies approved
reading materials (including church bulletins from home) and calendars is a
cult. Do not send your child. To see more warning signs and
questions you should ask, visit
www.heal-online.org/warn.htm.
The last two quotes reference New Beginnings' "right" to file suit for
collection of a debt in any jurisdiction and places limits on where families
can file suit. This is an unequal and arguably unconscionable term.
It also contradicts the stated policy that all disputes (except those
regarding the money "owed" to New Beginnings) must be handled in-house by
New Beginnings' ministry members who will provide "arbitration services".
This is discussed below. We mention it here because we want you to
make note of it and to see the contradiction when you read about the next
page in the review. This is an illusory contract at best and is
nothing more than a money-making cult that serves only the cult-leader's
interests.

HEAL Comments/Concerns
New Beginnings admits to restricting a
child's access to the outside world. New Beginnings illegally censors
and monitors all mail (incoming and outgoing). New Beginnings does not
allow the children access to the telephone. And, New Beginnings
creates a culture of intimidation and fear that will silence children who
may need help. New Beginnings also disallows in-person contact between
family members for a minimum of 6-months from date of enrollment. And,
controls when those visits can occur in order to make sure injuries are not
as noticeable when families visit. This puts the children in harm's
way and allows New Beginnings to explore their most sadistic fantasies with
other people's children without any oversight or any means for the children
to report abuse. Certainly, this puts a strain on effective
investigation and documentation of abuses and safeguards New Beginnings, not
the children in their care. And, with a "one-year" from date of
incident or claim is waived term in this "contract", it allows New
Beginnings to get away with abuse. This is a serious concern and no
family should entrust the care of their child to New Beginnings.
Most frauds include the severability term as a trick on the poor people
duped into signing it in the first place. Don't be fooled.
Consult with an attorney and let a court decide whether or not the contract
is enforceable. Based on our review, we believe it is an illusory, and
therefore void/voidable, "contract". Do not allow cults to bully you
into silence. Let the truth set you free.
New Beginnings believes
lawsuits are un-Christian unless they are the one's filing the lawsuit to
collect a supposed debt to their "ministry". Certainly, such a policy
is hypocritical on its face. And, a close look at this review and the
"contract" reveals the hypocrisy and abuse of Christians being manipulated
by others who exploit their faith for financial gain. One is reminded
of the passage of Jesus chasing the money-changers out of the temple.
Don't worship in a money/snake-pit like New Beginnings.
We will develop the discussion of the "arbitration" policies in the review
of page 14 below.
Page 14 Quotes
"All arbitrators must be born-again
Christians of good reputation in the community and who affirm New
Beginnings' statement of faith in its entirety."
"Each party shall submit
a list of three proposed arbitrators to the other part, and the other party
shall choose one of the three proposed arbitrators to serve on the panel"
"No arbitrators may be an attorney."
"Formal rules of evidence shall not
apply."
"The arbitrators may in their absolute discretion, receive and
consider any evidence they deem relevant to the dispute, whether written or
oral, without regard to any form rules of evidence."
"The parties and
their respective witnesses must, when required by the arbitrators, attend
and submit to examination and cross-examination under oath as to all or any
of the matters referred to in the proceedings, and to produce and deposit
with the arbitrators all or any evidence in their possession or under their
control concerning such matters."
"If a party defaults in any respect
referred to in Paragraph 4.2 above, the arbitrators may proceed with the
arbitration in their discretion as if no such evidence were in existence,
insofar as it may be favorable to the party in default."
HEAL
Comments/Concerns
Since New Beginnings appears to be deceptive,
oppressive, and otherwise corrupt, entrusting their "community" to provide
fair and honest arbitrators would be futile and unwise. New Beginnings
sets it up so that disputes are handled in-house to avoid investigation and
likely prosecution. These conditions solely benefit New Beginnings
while putting trusting families at risk. This is a serious concern.
New Beginnings wants their own cult-members to be their sole "judges" in any
dispute. This is not just and does not provide impartiality no matter
who makes the selections. If the choices for arbitrators are limited
to cult-members, it is a "kangaroo court" at best and no family should
invest time and effort into resolving disputes with New Beginnings given the
limitations on their rights attempted and/or enforced by New Beginnings.
Families who have been harmed by New Beginnings should
contact an attorney.
New Beginnings does not want someone familiar with the law in charge of the
arbitration proceedings. However, as most people agree, the laws of
the United States developed out of the Magna Carta and Manifest Destiny
ideals of the European enlightenment. European law developed over time
and was very influenced by Judeo-Christian morals. United States law
follows the same traditions. And, it is unclear why New Beginnings
would be afraid of allowing an attorney so-trained to decide in disputes.
The obvious proposed reason is that New Beginnings is aware that it is
breaking the law and that it fears being exposed and prosecuted. It
certainly doesn't inspire faith and trust in New Beginnings.
Formal rules
of evidence should apply in any dispute. There is a serious conflict
of interest in the manner in which these arbitrations are handled and this
is another term we find unconscionable.
The entire arbitration process is laughable. And, families are
advised to seek legal help. Do not subject yourself and your family to
further abuse and humiliation at the hands of New Beginnings.

Quotes
"All presentations shall be controlled by the arbitrators.
Any disputes regarding procedure shall be decided solely by the
arbitrators."
"The arbitrators have full power to order mutual releases to
be executed by the parties, and either of the parties failing such orders
shall have the effect of a release, and may by duly acknowledged as such."
"It is preferred that the arbitrators reach a unanimous decision, but if a
unanimous decision cannot be obtained, a majority decision will be
accepted."
"There is no appeal from the decision of the arbitrators."
"The decision of the arbitrators is to be kept confidential by all parties
for a period of one year."
"Should any party commence legal proceedings
against another party with respect to the agreed scope of the dispute or the
binding decision of the arbitrators, with the exception of an action to
enforce the decision of the arbitrators, that party shall pay to the other
party all expenses of said proceedings, including reasonable attorney's
fees."
"No party is to unreasonably delay or otherwise prevent or impede
the arbitration proceedings. No party will involve the news media in
the dispute in any way. No party shall publicize the dispute in any
way to anyone not a party to the proceedings, except as permitted by the
arbitrators, and except that a party may disclose proceedings of this
arbitration to his or your child spouse, legal counsel, accountants,
insurance carrier, and as otherwise required by law."
"Each party shall
pay his or our child own costs and expenses related to presenting the
party's case to the arbitrators. The costs of the arbitration,
including any fees for the arbitrators, are to be shared equally by both
parties."
HEAL Comments/Concerns
The arbitrators are chosen from the New
Beginnings "community". The arbitrators have control over what is and
is not considered evidence. And, the entire set up is corrupt.
It is a serious conflict of interest and does not provide equal protection
as is provided under US law. This is a serious concern.
It is a
serious concern and shows corruption that parties disagreeing with the
arbitrators' findings are lead to believe there is no recourse. If you
have been harmed by New Beginnings, we advise you
consult with an attorney
and that you do not subject yourself to the New Beginnings' "arbitration"
system. Let the law work for you.
New Beginnings' priority is money.
New Beginnings stands to lose money and face possible prosecution if the
truth gets out about their practices. So, New Beginnings does not want
the media involved or the courts. New Beginnings wants to avoid a
public record of the wrongs they commit against families. And, it is
up to families to safeguard their children by being informed and not
entering into bargains with hypocrites, deceivers, and oppressors.
Given the illusory nature of the contract, it is doubtful any reputable
court of valid jurisdiction would find in favor of New Beginnings.
And, families should not let the language of this twisted contract scare
them into silence.
Page 16 Quotes
"These Procedures for Arbitration may be revised or
amended by a majority vote of the New Beginnings' Board of Trustees."
"Applicants are admitted only on the express condition that they remain
enrolled in the Academy until the end of the written agreement unless
suspended or allowed to withdraw because of sustained illness. If the
student is suspended or expelled from the Academy, parents shall immediately
make transportation arrangements."
"The parent or guardian agrees that in
the event that the student leaves the Ministry because of voluntary
withdrawal on parent's or guardian's part during the written above term or
any subsequent academic session, no part of the fee for the school year
shall be refunded or remitted and any unpaid balance on account of such fee
for the school year shall become due and payable to the Academy as
liquidated damage."
HEAL Comments/Concerns
New Beginnings claims above
(page 5) that if New Beginnings decides to terminate the contract that the
parents must enact a voluntary withdrawal. New Beginnings claims it
can expel a child and then force parents to sign a false statement that they
withdrew their child voluntarily to give New Beginnings "evidence" that the
child was voluntarily removed as opposed to expelled therefore supporting
any claims for additional "tuition and fees". It is a scam.
Don't fall for it. The language is so contradictory and illusory that
the arbitrators (with no law degrees) will not understand the underlying
principles of ethics and law that should determine the outcome of any
legitimate dispute. And, it is a serious concern that any term in the
contract can be revised or amended by New Beginnings at any time without
further consultation and agreement with all parties to which any changes
will be applied.
The written agreement automatically renews at the end of 12 months.
How do you stop the auto-renewal? The "contract" is filled with
circular reasoning and it is intentionally confusing and oppressive to those
that are coerced or unduly influenced into adhering to it. It is a
serious concern that New Beginnings cares so little about the children with
whom they are trusted that they will put an unaccompanied and arguably
troubled child on a bus to his/her home town. This is unsafe.
Any legitimate childcare agency that believes a child has been abandoned
would contact the authorities and report the abandonment. This would
be the correct thing to do for the safety of the child. You do not put
children who are afraid on a bus where strangers and predators can await
with no resources to call home or get additional help. It is wholly
irresponsible and not a Christian thing to do in the least.
New Beginnings
cares only about the money. The primary points of the contract are:
get money; refuse any responsibility towards children/families up to and
including any harm caused by New Beginnings that results in the death of any
family member or child enrolled in the program; deal with all complaints
in-house and decide the outcome in-house based on what is best for the
"ministry"; and New Beginnings has all the power and the families have none.
This is an illusory, unconscionable, and arguably illegal contract that no
family should sign.
Why does a "ministry" require the social security numbers of children
enrolled? Most schools do not and are legally not allowed to require
the social security number of individuals enrolled. This includes
public schools and universities. How does New Beginnings use this
information?
Why does New Beginnings require the social security numbers, places of
birth, income, and banking information of those who wish to be involved in
their ministry? This is sensitive information that can be misused or
sold for misuse (i.e. identity theft, fraud). Given the other issues
discussed regarding New Beginnings, we recommend families do not share their
personal financial or identifying information with New Beginnings.
New
Beginnings has lied to you. It is not a school and the credits are not
transferrable to legitimate schools and colleges. This is a serious
concern. And, children often model themselves after their parents.
So, if a child is prone to lie it is likely because they have watched adults
do it for years. How often do parents fail to answer questions posed
by other adults honestly while their children stand-by? How often do
parents tell a friend at lunch that they do not care for their meal, while
they tell the server that everything is fine? Such dishonest acts
confuse children and do not create a bright-line rule regarding the
importance of honesty. The courtesy of "white lies" in social
situations translates to dishonesty being acceptable for personal gain,
appearances, or personal benefit in our society. And, many parents
warn children "don't let me catch you doing [blank]". This reinforces
bad behavior and includes a warning to keep wrongdoing hidden. This is
a sentiment perpetuated by abusers who wish to remain uncaught in regards to
their wrongs. And, it shows an underlying hypocrisy in regards to the
morals and ethics imparted to children of those who put their outward
appearance above their moral and ethical standards of action.

"The King James Version

used by New Beginning."
"We believe in the bodily resurrection of all
men-the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting

HEAL Comments/Concerns
Parents are the authorities in their
families and households. New Beginnings oversteps any perceived
authority by demanding strict adherence from the parents and the children
and control over the families they claim to serve. New Beginnings
operates as a cult, not a center for spiritual development and growth.
And, this is a serious concern.
New Beginnings is not a school and is not
accredited nor licensed as a school (boarding or not) in Missouri.
This is absolute false advertising and further exemplifies the deception
used by New Beginnings in their materials.
What does New Beginnings mean
by "Christian service"? When slavery was legal, many slaveholders used
the bible to convince their servants and slaves that the bible supported
their enslavement. However, Christ and Moses were liberators.
Christ and Moses questioned authority and fought the oppressors with God's
support and help. Just because the Oppressor thinks it is "cute" to
fool Christians by perverting their faith for his gain, doesn't mean
Christians should fall for it. Please avoid New Beginnings and rescue
your children if they are their now. Jesus said, "40And
the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as
ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it
unto me. 41Then shall
he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into
everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42For I was an hungred, and ye
gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43I was a stranger, and ye
took me not in: naked, and ye
clothed me not: sick, and in
prison, and ye visited me not. 44Then
shall they also answer him,
saying, Lord, when saw we thee
an hungred, or athirst, or a
stranger, or naked, or sick, or
in prison, and did not minister
unto thee? 45Then
shall he answer them, saying,
Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch
as ye did it not to one of the
least of these, ye did it not to
me. 46And
these shall go away into
everlasting punishment: but the
righteous into life eternal." (KJV,
Matthew 25:40-46)
Jesus' message is quite clear.
We are to treat each other with
the same service, love,
compassion, and help that we
would provide to Christ if among
us today. This is not how
New Beginnings uses the bible.
It uses the bible to place some
men above others and as a tool
to steal and oppress. It
is the worst of ungodly behavior
in that it is done in God's
name. No one should
subject themselves or their
families to these false
prophets.
HEAL has already
addressed the issues with how
New Beginnings manipulates
biblical text for personal gain.
And, we discussed the issues
with the false claims made by
New Beginnings above in the
discussion of page 6.
Please see above for more
information.
New Beginnings focuses on
damnation and not salvation.
It focuses on fear and hate of
the thought of being damned as
opposed to the love and warmth
of being welcomed in heaven.
It uses fear and hate to control
as opposed to acceptance,
fairness, compassion, and love
to liberate. New
Beginnings is not representative
of God or any good you can
imagine. They represent
the worst of humanity and ought
not be allowed to continue
harming families and children
through their blasphemy.

"Abortion is murder. We

HEAL Concerns/Comments
New Beginnings uses fear and
manipulates scripture to pervert
its meaning and oppress others.
Anyone who preaches fear is not
representing God. "God is
love." (KJV,
1 John 4:8) "Love
suffers long
and is
kind; love does not envy; love
does not parade itself, is not
puffed up;
5 does not behave rudely,
does not seek its own, is not
provoked, thinks no evil;
6 does not rejoice in
iniquity, but rejoices in the
truth;
7 bears all things,
believes all things, hopes all
things, endures all things.
8 Love never fails." (KJV,
1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
If God is love and therefore
kind, humble, good, devoted to
the truth, and the source and
sustainer of faith in all things
good, then love should be the
lesson imparted to all.
God's love is selfless,
enduring, everlasting, and
welcoming. New Beginnings
excludes even Christian music
from their cult and attempts to
control families who come to
them for help while depleting
those families of their
resources. They are wholly
and evidently not followers of
God nor God's representatives.
And, families should avoid New
Beginnings.
New Beginnings sits in judgment of others and assumes to know God's mind
through their perverse and malevolent interpretation of mixed bible
passages. The bottom line is that New Beginnings is a cult and uses
extreme measures of shame, fear, and hate to control their initiates and
captives. No family should subject themselves to New Beginnings.
HEAL does not believe in racism or intolerance in any form. And, we
believe supporting such ideas and placing oneself as better than another is
oppositional to the purposes adopted by true people of faith.
The abortion issue is
controversial and we understand both sides. However, cults like
New Beginnings enslave women and use children for their own sadistic
pleasures. They are not representative of God or God's capacity for
mercy and forgiveness. By condemning the living, New Beginnings
condemns itself.
Page 7 Quotes

civil lawsuits against other Christians or the church to resolve personal
disputes. We believe the church possesses all the resources necessary
to resolve personal disputes between members."
"To provide a college
preparatory academic program that services the student of high academic
ability through an accelerated progression of college-level courses, and the

"All objectives and
programs are subordinated to and supportive of the dual goals of the school,
developing to the fullest potential in each student Christian principles and
academic scholarship."
HEAL Comments/Concerns
New Beginnings is
hypocrisy at its worst. It reserves the "right" to sue their victims
for money while claiming they don't believe that Christians should sue each
other in civil lawsuits and that such lawsuits are prohibited by scripture.
They do not obey their own rules. And, therefore are not leading by
example nor representative of God.
New Beginnings is not a legitimate and
accredited school. And, their inference that they are a legitimate
boarding school amount to bearing false witness/deception.
New Beginnings does not teach proper Christian values nor does it provide
legitimate academic services. Please do not fall for this scam!
"This authorization
shall remain in effect until the termination of my child's enrollment at New
Beginnings."
"I understand that authorization for treatment also includes
responsibility for paying fees related to services provided with the consent
of the above listed institution acting on my behalf."
"ATTENTION MEDICAL
PROVIDER: New Beginnings or its agents are NOT responsible for any fees
incurred by the above named student."
HEAL Comments/Concerns
New
Beginnings refuses any liability for any harm they cause children and their
families. This is not Christian and does not show integrity or
personal/professional responsibility on the part of New Beginnings.
This is a serious concern.
New Beginnings should be held responsible for all injuries and harm they
cause and an honest, decent, Christian ministry would not absolve itself
from responsibility when having caused harm.

"MEDICAL HISTORY"

"Have you ever sought psychiatric or psychological

"TO BE COMPLETED BY A PHYSICIAN"
"Does this

HEAL
Comments/Concerns
New Beginnings is not a licensed medical nor licensed
mental health services provider. New Beginnings has no training nor
expertise in the fields of medicine and mental health. How would
providing this information benefit New Beginnings? And, how will they
use it to shame and/or exploit your child and your family?
New Beginnings
does not provide in the "medical form" a complete description of the types
of activities/labor to which children will be put while enrolled and solely
asks if the child is physically capable of being enrolled in school.
This does not provide an informed basis on which the physician can comment
and therefore is useless as a determinative tool in evaluating the capacity
of a child to handle the demands of New Beginnings. This is a serious
concern and shows a "ministry" that is bent on making money and not serving
God or people of faith.

"Limited Power of Attorney"
"KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENT, that I/we ______________, do make,
constitute, and appoint any authorized official of New Beginnings as my/our
true and lawful Attorney, for the limited purpose herein stated in in my/our
name(s), place and stead, as my/our act and deed to do the following:"
"To
incur any debts deemed necessary by my/our Attorney-In-Fact for the medical
care of my/our child, __________, and to execute all documents deemed
necessary by the provider of those medical services with full authorization
to admit my/our child, ____________, to any hospital examination or
treatment."
"GIVING AND GRANTING unto my/our Attorney-In-Fact power and
authority to do and perform all and every act in the exercise of my/our
parental rights concerning my/our child, ____________, which I/we might or
could do in my/our own person if actually present."
"And I/we hereby
declare that any act or thing lawfully done by my/our said Attorney-In-Fact
shall be binding on me/us, my/our heirs, legal and personal representatives,
provided the same shall have been done pursuant to the Power of Attorney,
and shall have been done prior to revocation of this instrument."
"I/we
understand that the termination of my/our child's enrollment at New
Beginnings shall constitute the revocation of this instrument effective on
that date."
HEAL Comments/Concerns
Parents should never sign over their
parental rights to New Beginnings and should never agree to any language
that allows New Beginnings unlimited authority over the child. Parents
should safeguard and protect their children from New Beginnings and should
not encourage the conflict of interest that the terms of the Limited Power
of Attorney exhibit. Please
consult with an attorney for
more information and a legal opinion regarding this form.

"I/we agree that I/we will hold
harmless and not bring suit against New Beginnings or its agents or
employees for any injury, harm or other dangers, whether caused by its
agents, employees, or by third parties. Nor will any action be brought
for the acts of the child named."
"This consent authorizes the use of

"This consent authorizes the

"This consent authorizes the

recommends consultation."
"I/we agree not to remove my/our child prior to
the expiration of the written agreement, I/we understand that my/our child
must remain enrolled for at least one full year. In case of early
withdrawal, the initial twelve (12) month period, the remaining tuition for
that period will become due and payable effective the date of my/our child's
termination. In the event that my/our child should run from the
premises any tuition and/or entrance fees will not be refunded nor will the
remaining tuition for the 12 month contractual agreement become due and
payable."
"I/we assume responsibility for the total cost of any medical,
dental, or emergency needs that may arise during my child's enrollment at
New Beginnings."
"I/we grant my/our child permission to travel to various
New Beginnings functions during his/her enrollment. I/we understand
these activities may take my/our child to other states as well as Canada or
Mexico."
"In addition, I/we agree to not hold New Beginnings liable for
any accidents or injuries that occur while on the road or at any of these
functions."
"I/we am/are hereby enrolling my/our child into New
Beginnings, and I/we recognize that the aforementioned ministry is no more
than a private boarding academy for children, and I/we have chosen this as
the proper academic and social environment for my/our child."
"I have read
and agree to abide by all of the above. I have also read, understand,
and give my consent to have my child governed by all policies, rules, and
regulations of New Beginnings, and to have corporal discipline administered
to my child in accordance with those rules."
HEAL Comments/Concerns
It
is a serious concern that any injury or harm, (including those resulting in
death--see page 10 review below) caused by New Beginnings' failures to
provide proper childcare and educational services, is disclaimed by New
Beginnings and that New Beginnings demands to be released, acquitted, and
forever discharged for any crime or civil (tort) violation they commit. (see
page 10 quotes)
New Beginnings inspires suicidal thoughts. And, disclaims their
actions that may result in the death of children. However, they would
not claim any such harm they commit a crime against man or God. But,
it is and they are not representative of true people of faith.
So many New
Beginnings' policies are illegal and violate the rights of children.
The censoring and monitoring of mail is one example. The use of the
child's photo, video, voice, or other media representation for
self-promotion is unethical and violates the child's right to privacy.
It is disturbing that New Beginnings encourages parents to violate the
rights of their children.
New Beginnings is not qualified to evaluate the academic records provided
by legitimate schools and it does not provide transferrable/accredit school
credit. The language regarding the need to evaluate academic records
is a ruse to fool parents into thinking that New Beginnings is legitimate.
It is not. Please do not subject your child to New Beginnings.
New
Beginnings does not respect the privacy or confidentiality of information
regarding individuals in their church and therefore should not be trusted
with the private/sensitive information of families.
It is a serious
concern that the overall payment policy in the event of early withdrawal is
to collect all "contract monies due". It is a serious concern that in
the event New Beginnings chooses to terminate a child's enrollment that they
force the parents to sign a voluntary early withdrawal form (discussed
above) and then use that form to "prove" that the withdrawal was on the
parent's end and thereby as a point to collect all "contract monies due".
And, that the only way to avoid paying for the remainder of the bogus
tuition, according to the contract terms, is to have the child run away and
thereby put directly in harm's way. New Beginnings does not put the
welfare of children first and therefore should not be allowed near children.
New Beginnings should accept responsibility for any medical expenses that
are the result of New Beginnings' policies and actions. It is
unethical, immoral, and unconscionable for New Beginnings to charge people
for the costs of its own wrongs.
Parents should never give open permission to any group or cult to take
their children on out-of-state, let alone, out-of-country trips. These
are fundraising trips and HEAL has received reports of inappropriate
room-sharing (male/female) and other issues. Please do not sign a
blanket permission slip for travel with any group or cult. Each trip
should be explained in regards to purpose, value, and cost to the families
as well as receive individual permission slips for those trips.
Parents should always be informed in advance of any planned trips including
the destination, accommodations, and any other relevant information
(communities/churches/etc. that will be involved).
It remains a serious concern that New Beginnings does not take any
responsibility for any harm that may come to children in their care,
including harm caused while traveling.
New Beginnings is not an accredited school nor educational service
provider. Parents should not trust New Beginnings.
Parents should
not agree to New Beginnings' policies that violate the law and place
children in harm's way. And, as shown, New Beginnings' policies do
just that.

"CONSENT AND RELEASE FORM FOR CHURCH/SCHOOL ACTIVITY"
"I/we the undersigned parent(s)/guardian(s), hereby consent to my/our child,
____________________, who is________years of age to participate in the
activities connected with New Beginnings. I understand these
activities will include, but not be limited to the following: horseback
riding, swimming, boating, canoeing, fishing, tubing, and other water
related sports, football, soccer, basketball, baseball, softball,
volleyball, golf, weight lifting, bowling, go-carting, and any other
competitive sport, also including work experience in and around New
Beginnings."
"I do, for myself and for my/our child, heirs and assigns,
hereby irrevocably and unconditionally release, acquit, and forever
discharge New Beginnings and its agents, employees, and volunteers from any
and all liability, actions causes of actions, claims, expenses, obligations,
and damages of any nature whatsoever, which I now have or which may arise in
the future, in connection with my child's participation in the described
activity or any other associated activities including, but not limited to,
any injury to my child or property, even injury resulting in death."
"I
expressly agree that this release, waiver, and indemnity agreement is
intended to be broad and inclusive as permitted by the state of Missouri and
that if any portion hereof is held invalid it is agreed that the balance
shall, notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect. This
release contains the entire agreement between the parties hereto."
HEAL
Comments/Concerns
How often, if ever, do children get to have
non-work-related recreational activities? New Beginnings includes a
list of fun activities to fool families into thinking it is a standard
release form for participation in sports or normal activities.
However, parents should note that they include work experience in that list.
And, this "work experience" is uncompensated and coerced labor performed by
children in the program/cult. This is dehumanizing and not a practice
that honors human rights and human dignity. Parents should not enroll
children in New Beginnings.
It is a serious concern that New Beginnings, knowing that its practices
are abusive and likely to result in serious mental and physical injury,
demands parents indemnify them against the risks of such injuries (including
death). This is unconscionable. A program that would hold those
who have an abortion accountable for it should certainly accept full
responsibility for any harm and death it may cause to children.
No child should be entrusted to the care of New Beginnings.

Quotes
"I/We, the undersigned parent(s)/guardian(s) of my/our minor child,
___________________, agree with the New Beginnings policy that at any such
time that my/our child shall have his/her enrollment terminated, for any
reason; I/we shall relinquish all rights to any personal property which
he/she may have left behind, and agree that New Beginnings may dispose of
the property left behind at its discretion."
HEAL Comments/Concerns
The
terms of page 13 would be reasonable, if and only if, the child/family were
given full access to their property and allowed to pack it themselves.
Since New Beginnings assumes the right to pack for children and to keep
whatever they want and consider it a "donation", they permit themselves and
their staff to steal from children and families. This is unacceptable
and violates another of the ten commandments. New Beginnings is no
place for children nor people of faith.
HEAL advises against placement of
any child in New Beginnings and recommends parents remove any children
currently enrolled in this program.

Beginnings, New Bethany, and Hephzibah House begins approx. 19 minutes in
