It is imperative that you DO NOT send your child to a facility that you yourself will not be monitoring on at least a weekly basis in person to monitor the treatment and well being of your child. Following is a “work in progress” list of behavior modification programs that HEAL has yet to research/investigate and/or that are located outside of the United States. We can protect your identity if you so desire. Understand that this is an incomplete list and that it is your responsibility to look heavily into the program(s) which you consider placing your child into. Some of the programs listed below are international programs that have been found to be abusive. Alberta Adolescent Recovery Center (AARC)--Located in Alberta, Canada. Reportedly a spin-off of the notoriously abusive Straight, Inc. AARC is confirmedly abusive. AMIkids, Inc.--Multiple Locations, HQ'd in Tampa, FL. (other locations include: Florida, Illinois, Georgia, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia (multiple cities in each state) They claim to help troubled teens and to run dozens of programs across the country. Ark Youth Shelter and Home--Located in Spartanburg, SC. HEAL received a report that convicted sex offender, Aaron Karl Blackham worked at Ark Youth Shelter and Home in 1996 and was convicted as a sex offender in 1997. The victim was a child under the age of 16. A HEAL volunteer called Ark Youth Shelter and Home on December 15th, 2011 and confirmed that Aaron Blackham did work for Ark Youth Shelter and Home in 1996. Blue Sky Behavioral Health, LLC--Located in Danbury/Milford, CT. This program is being started in Connecticut under the ownership/leadership of JJS Health Family Limited Partnership which is owned by Joseph J. Santoro. Joseph J. Santoro is also the owner/founder of the now closed SLS Health/SLS Residential program. SLS Health had its license revoked due to abuse and human rights violations. This program is in the process of opening in CT and we will post a staff list with background information as soon as the information is available.

Breaking the Cycle--Located in Fair Oaks, CA. HEAL received a request from a parent to investigate this program on January 31st, 2012. Breakthrough--Located in Spokane, WA. We have received a preliminary report that this program is suspect. Please contact us with any info on this program. There is no website for this program. Children's Home Society of Florida--Located in Jacksonville, Florida. We have received preliminary reports of abuse and violations at this program. Crossroads for Youth--Located in Oxford, MI. Their residential program is called "Achievement Center" and lasts for 4.5 months according to the Crossroads website. Cumberland Hospital for Children and Adolescents--Located in New Kent, VA. This is a UHS, Inc. facility and reportedly abusive. We are in the process of investigating. Please contact us with any information on this program. For staff and background information, click here.

Discovery School, The--(aka Wolf Creek, LLC) in Dillwyn, VA. HEAL received a request from a family to research this program. Our initial research raised red flags and we are investigating. One of our major concerns is that parents are denied visitation with their children for at least the first 60 days of enrollment. This is a warning sign and no school or facility should bar contact between parents and their children for extended amounts of time. For staff and background information, click here. Easter Seals Residential--Located in Manchester, NH. HEAL has received an anonymous e-mail alleging emotional and physical abuse at this program. We are investigating. For staff and background information, click here. If you have any information on this program, please contact us.

Escuala Caribe--Located in the Dominican Republic. Don't send your kid out of the country. HEAL has received multiple reports of torture at this facility including the mangling of children's hands in pick-axe "accidents". Please do not send your child to this program! Extended Family, Inc.--Located in Spanish Fork, Utah. HEAL recommends no parent subject any child to any program in Utah as Utah is corrupt and refuses to regulate or take action against confirmedly abusive programs such as WWASPS, Provo Canyon School, Sorenson's Ranch, etc... Family Support Services--Located nationwide. This new "service" is suspected of funneling kids into unregulated, private prisons where innumerable human rights violations regularly occur. It is the privatization of "corrections" and it is a threat to family unity. Lon Woodbury (CEDU/Struggling Teens.com) backs this new change to the juvenile justice system. And, that is definitely a bad sign. Beyond this, some of these services already openly associate with abusive programs. For instance, Family Support Services in Utah are partnered with the United Way of Utah. The United Way of Utah refers to Provo Canyon School. Provo Canyon School is confirmedly abusive. Fieldstone Academy--Located in Gunnison, UT. King Family Ministries--Located in Danbury, NC. This program is operated by the former director (Olen King) of New Bethany Home for Boys (A Roloff Home, confirmedly abusive). When this number is called, the answering party says "hello" and does not greet in a professional manner. This program does not include enrollment materials or other information online or to the general public. This is a serious concern. Memphis Recovery Centers (a/k/a Memphis House, Inc.)--Located in Memphis, TN. HEAL has received a preliminary report of abuse occurring at this facility from 1989-1990. New Horizons Youth Ranch--Located in Ronan, MT. HEAL has received a request from a parent to research this program. Next Step for Success--Located in Redmond, OR. This is a "training/certification" program for program staff and a parental "coaching" program in a non-residential environment. HEAL's concern is that this program is very tight with the behavior modification industry, including confirmedly fraudulent and abusive programs. Harold Dabel is listed as the most recent administrator of this program. Dabel was also part of the management team when the program was known as Dundee Ranch (WWASPS). Pinehaven Christian Children's Ranch--Located in St. Ignatius, MT. HEAL received a preliminary report of abuse at this facility on January 25th, 2012. We are currently investigating. Piney Ridge Development Center--Located in Forrest City, Arkansas. It is a residential program for teens. Please contact us with any information. This program appears to have opened in late 2006. Pressley Ridge Ohiopyle Therapeutic Wilderness--Located in DE, KY, MD, OH, PA, TX, VA, Wash. DC, and internationally in Hungary and Portugal. Don't send your kid out of the country. Believed to be associated with the notoriously abusive Kids Helping Kids program in Milford, OH. These programs do not keep their staff information online or available to the general public. The same is true of their residential program details and enrollment materials. They appear to provide services only to those in foster care, but, this is uncertain. Reflections for Youth--Located in Loveland, Colorado. It is a residential treatment facility. It uses a level-system and openly states it is a behavior modification program using a level-system on its website as of December 9th, 2008. Any program that uses a level-based behavior modification program is suspect. Respect Camp--Located on border of Mississippi/Alabama. A WWASP/WWASPS program. WWASP is notoriously abusive and deadly. Do not send your child to a WWASP facility. Rupert's Kids in Indianapolis, IN. Residential program for 18-24 year olds. They will be expanding in September of 2008 to accept children from the juvenile courts. The staff for this program available online are: Debbie Kinman (operations manager), Georgette Boneham (Intake), Rupert Boneham (founder), Kevin Hayes (mentor), Danielle De Lawder (TV, Theater, Film), Neal Altman (Voice Overs), Mark Turner (Hosting), and Lindsey Purcell (interim program director). This information was accurate on Nov. 5th, 2010 and updated on August 31st, 2011. This appears to be a program for children leaving state custody. It is unclear what the purpose is other than to keep Rupert Boneham rich and famous. This is a concern.

This program is just starting and it has connections to some of the worst cults and program networks known to investigators including CEDU (King George School) and Aspen Education Group. These are all serious concerns. According to strugglingteens.com, Karen Fitzhugh has a history of working for Fulshear Academy, Aspen Education Group, and King George School. This does not encourage faith that Sovereign Journey will be anything more than another scam. Two Rivers Landing (aka Comprehensive Mental Health)--Located in Yakima, WA. It is in the process of opening as of February, 2009. This appears to be a short-term "evaluation" program for children ages 11-17. It is unclear what the "discharge" process may include, but, it claims to focus on community-based and local resources for help after the evaluation. The only staff we can find named for this program are Megan Kelly, her title is Division Director (Nov., 6th, 2010), Chris Moore (MST Coordinator) and Rick Weaver, CEO/President (August 31st, 2011). There is no enrollment information available online for this program. HEAL is investigating.
